Information Regarding 2020-2021 Hockey SeasonInformation Regarding 2020-2021 Hockey SeasonSeptember 9th, 2020
We are all excited that September is here and with it comes the anticipation of getting back on the ice! We know you all likely have lots of questions, and we will do our best to keep you up to date with the information as we get it.
As you may have seen on the Hockey PEI website, a phased-in approach has been approved by the Chief Public Health Office (CPHO).
Phase 2 has been approved to begin September 15th, 2020.
Each hockey association is required to submit their own Operational Plan to HockeyPEI prior to commencement of any activities. This process is currently underway with the association and the facilities.
We must adhere to the below protocols as per CPHO guidelines. These will include, but are not limited to:
- A maximum number of players/coaches allowed on the ice at one time
- A maximum number of players per dressing room
- Protocols around entering/exiting the rink
- Restrictions on spectators - (Phase 2- is no spectators)
- As well as the required social distancing and hand washing protocols.
As soon as our Operational Plans have been finalized/approved, we will post more specific information on our website (http://southsidelynx.com/) and Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/southsidelynx/).
As with everything Covid-19 related, the situation is constantly evolving and as such, we know the plan will involve continuous change/updates. We ask for your patience as we all work through this.
We encourage online registration (new this season) and will be opening that up with a payment option of electronic funds transfer (EFT). However, we will also be having one in-person registration date for those who prefer this method, on September 16th, 2020 from 5:30 pm to 8 pm at Gateway Arena.

Unfortunately, this past summer we were unable to hold our main fundraiser (Crapaud Exhibition) due to Covid-19 restrictions. This is a significant loss of revenue for our association and for the 2020-2021 hockey season, we regrettably must suspend the volunteer credit program.
SSMHA does offer a family discount. Families with multiple players from the same family will pay full price for the first player and receive a $50 discount on any others.
There will be two payment options (1) payment in full (2) ½ at registration and ½ on November 15th, 2020.
To mitigate the cost of loss fundraised revenue this past summer, we have decided as a Board to fundraise through our Fundscript program and offer each family a $50 gas certificate upon full payment of registration, when received.
*Registration fees are payable to the Association to cover ice times, Hockey PEI insurance and team fees. Teams may collect or fundraise on their own to cover any additional costs such as officials, referees, timekeepers, tournaments, and team gear. *
Please note: your player(s) is not considered registered until payment (full or ½) has been received by September 16th, 2020. Player(s) must be registered with their home association before player(s) can participate in any try outs.
REGISTRATION FEES for 2020-2021:
$475 1 Player ($425 plus $50 fundraiser gift card)
$850 2 Players ($800 plus $50 fundraiser gift card)
$1,175 3 Players ($1,125 plus $50 fundraiser gift card)
$1,450 4 Players ($1,400 plus $50 fundraiser gift card)
$300 Initiation/Skills ($250 plus $50 fundraiser gift card)
Each year there is a process and it is imperative to have your player registered by the deadline. The Board makes decisions based on confirmed registrations. The registration period will end on September 16th, 2020. After September 16th, registrations will have a late fee of $50 added to their registration.
SSMHA is also looking for coaching staff for all ‘A’ teams. If you are interested, please forward your completed application to coaches@southsidelynx.com and no later than September 26th, 2020. Coaching form is located on our website under the side bar of FORMS.
We are a Volunteer Board that does receive direction from HockeyPEI but must make decisions that are in the best interest of the Southside Minor Hockey Association as a whole. If at anytime you would like to discuss, offer suggestions or volunteer in some sort of capacity, please feel free to email info@southsidelynx.com.
We hope everyone has a great season of development and memories – We will make the best of our new hockey norm! |
